digital art - 3D alley with LepVulpes logo in gimp

Overview:

I wanted a nice "3D Alleyway" image featuring the LepVulpes Logo, so after failing to get the effect i wanted in blender, i resorted to gimp, and it turned out quite well.

You may be wondering...

"how?" Well first off its just some effects. such as using the perspective tool on that left wall and the ground. and using a "shading" layer with a mask that has a cut-out section for the sky, and the rest is a gradient. likewise the logo shadow is just a blackened-slightly blurred, translucent variant of the logo that's just slightly bigger, and has a similar mask gradient to the shading layer.

made in gimp.

Spectrums Of Reality

Spectrums Of Reality
(c) 2017 Thomas Leathers

Description:
The idea behind this image is each part represents another reality, and the 3 cat figures represent the journey through life.

lego creations - now thats a lego fan

Yea, i built a LEGO fan. What? What pun? I have no idea what you are talking about! 😛

It features a crank, but can also be equipped with a motor.  It has three adjustable blades, some gears, a stabilizer beam and more,
The hardest part about anything that spins around fast is obvious. Balance.  Each of those blades is carefully designed to match the weight of the others.

knex creations - Binary half adder

Ah, what an interesting knex machine, (and what a pain to edit out the margin of the photo area)

Going by the title, you have probably guessed its some kind of half adder of base 2, well yes, but technically there are two in this thing.

besides being by far my most tedious knex creation (in both size, complexity, and sensitivity)
it does work, and with not even a rubber band.

you might notice that its not exactly stable per say. 😛

Ah here we have a nice logic diagram. the half adder works the same way.

this is definitely a case of functional knex art.

"how is it art?" well its art because i say it is, and its not exactly that reliable, and can only add up to 2, so its more of a conversation piece than anything else, 😆)

DIY - notepad

Overview:

This thing started with me looking at a spare roll of adding machine paper. and looking at a unfinished knex light stand. so i got to work and wound up with this thing. It even has a nice pen holder. behind the board the paper just dips down in a loose "U" pattern. the paper roll is held in sync with the crank with two knex wheel pins.  And to top it off, its even wall mounted.

DIY - Cat pen holder.

Overview:

This started as just a simple need for a pen holder, and having some spare black foamboard. the basic body is just 2 conjoined boxes, one shorter than the other, tacked together with picture hanging nails, and wrapped in black electrical tape.

the features are basically just cut through the tape and paper, shaped and colored.

and it even has a place to keep my sticky notes and labels. 😃

Sneak Peek - Unfinished 3D landscape

Originally The landscape shown here was going to be much smaller, but i kinda got carried away. the set is for a point and click adventure game that i was going to make, whether that will ever come to pass is still up in the air.  anyways...

we see here a pier. along with a nice glossy reflection on the water.

Here we have a warehouse, with another unfinished point and click game, referenced on the billboard.

hardest part of this area of the model was the fountain oddly, mostly down to me being irritated by subdivide 😒

Here we have that pier again...

There was probably an easier way to make those sidewalks than copy-pasting a bunch of flattened cubes 😛 but oh well.

Yes. That cliff took a while 😆

fun fact, most of the textures are noise-based, with some extra tweaks and details where it counts. even the chalk cliffs have a slight noise to them.
